How does radiofrequency work?

Radiofrequency is an advanced technology that has been around for over a decade and has been very effective in skin tightening. It uses radio waves which, when absorbed by the water in the skin, create energy which then turns into heat. This can then be used to help tighten the skin and or breakdown cellulite. Treatment is entirely safe, pain-free & very low risk, with a very little or no downtime. It also relaxes facial & neck muscles.

How does it tighten the skin?

The heat produced is registered by the brain as a ‘thermal trauma’. This then stimulates all the cells that make collagen and elastin called ‘fibroblasts’. Over the course of treatments (usually six which takes 3-6 months), the collagen and elastin build, firming and tightening the skin. To see the full impact it often does take around six months, however, most people experience a slightly tighter firmer, brighter skin for a few days as the heat causes the skin to contract and tighten.

Who is most suitable for?

This treatment is excellent for lower face, jawline, chin, neck, upper arms, thighs and tummy. It is also suitable for reducing fine to medium lines, especially useful around the eyes, for crow’s feet and droopy eyes.

It can be used on its own or in combination with other laser and anti-wrinkle injections and fillers to maximise results. If deeper lines and wrinkles concern you, you may be more suited to fractional resurfacing or anti-wrinkle injections.

How does it work on cellulite?

The heat will make the triglycerides in the fat cell softer so they can start to be broken down. The weather also brings blood to the area, which in turns brings nutrients. Cellulite often contains many toxins in the area due to the clustered fat cells. This helps with the removal of the softened fat and also with connective tissue which can be too short and pull the skin down making it look more ‘dimpled’. Finally, it will stimulate some collagen and tighten the skin which will also help improve the appearance
